Etiquette Question/Deep Thought or Whatever

Is it rude to politely decline a consumable such as tea, cookies, etc from someone if you know you won't consume it and will just throw it away once they are gone? This way it is not wasted.

Or is it better to politely accept it and then throw it away once they leave. What if they search your trashcan when you are away?

Interesting question. Can I just give it to a dog?

It's not rude but some people take it personally. I practice "selective acceptance" because my coworkers are constantly eating and I usually don't care to join them. The randomness of it makes them happy because they think they've found something I really like.

I say they should let us bring our dogs to work, then you can always accept even if it is offered by the creepy guy.

I promise I was as polite as can be...Selective acceptance is good advice...I'll keep that in mind...although i don't know why i should worry about creepy guy's feelings...

I'd rather not accept something if I'm not going to eat it. It pains me to throw away perfectly good food.
